General Contracts

The General Contracts Department is a production based department with a staff of five and a client attendance of approximately twenty-nine. The department provides many services and products. Our main thrust is in mail services and our speciality is municipal billing with MICR encoding capabilities. Other services that General Contracts offer are; desktop publishing, printing, data processing, database management, convention kit assembly & promotional buttons.

Production: The General Contracts Department is enjoying a banner year. We have welcomed many new customers and our production is soaring beyond our expectations.
We have had a lot of positive feedback from our customers both new and old about our attitude towards our work, our quality of workmanship and our willingness to meet our customers’ needs. This we believe is why we are experiencing such a successful year.
We have been able to establish a presence in the Halifax market and to date we have processed over 120,000 pieces of mail for that area.
Recently we acquired a secondhand Heidelburg printing press. This acquisition enables us to do a number of tasks that until this time we had to sublet off site. One result of the purchase is that are now the official supplier of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles even split tickets.
The number of new customers as well the increased diversity of jobs are too numerous to list. But it is suffice to say that due to a strong sense of teamwork that exists in this department we look forward to continued gains in the future.

Client News: Several clients from this department have taken an in-house Pre Employment Training. The course consists of a number of components such as; Basic Work skills, Teamwork, Healthy Living, Communications, Customer Service, Work Place Safety and Self & Others. The purpose is to better enable the client to meet the demands of work experience and employment placement. Several new clients have joined our department this year and we have increased the daily participation of two others. We are currently starting the process to add more clients to the department. In all we are pleased in being able to address the waiting list of people interested in the services of the Centre. Fifteen clients from General Contract enjoy the Life Enhancement Services on a rotational basis.

Staff News: This year we welcomed Wendy Blanchard MacDonald to our staff. Wendy comes to us from LES and brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience in this industry. We have two CEIP placements. Torrey Whiffen and Alex Brenna, both individuals have been a tremendous assistance to our department and we thank them sincerely. Alex has just completed his term in August and Torrey will be with us until April 2005.
As a result with a HRSD sponsored programed we have acquired the services of Gordon MacLean. Gordon is a printing press operator with 30 years of experience. His employment has enabled us to attract several new customers with a possibility to increase that number dramatically.
The remainder of the staff, Tim Reiley, Vernon MacLellan, Lori Ann Kennedy and Heather MacDonald continue to promote the goals and well being of clients and the department.

The past year has proven to be a great learning experience. New challenges and demands were presented almost daily and the staff and clients responded to them in stride. It is to them that this department owes its success and we are fortunate to have such a great team. To our fellow staff, board members, administration and clients who have always supported us and assisted when needed we offer sincere thanks and appreciation.
In closing we acknowledge our customers. Those who believe in our abilities and recognize the astuteness of getting good value for every dollar spent. Thank you for your past and future patronage. Most importantly, thank you for your loyalty.
